In. the Absence jest zajebista i prawie się nie rozstaje z tą płytą.... Absolutna czołówka ubiegłoroczna, a może i album roku nawet...

My first time to see Isis was back in 2000 when they opened for The Dillinger Escape Plan in Memphis, Tennessee. Seven years later and on the other side of the world, Isis continues to impress me with their amazing shows. The sound was great and everyone seemed really into it. I was surprised to see how few people showed up, however. There were only about 75-100 people in a venue for maybe 250.

The show went very smoothly except toward the end of “False Light.” It looked like Mike broke a string on his guitar, but the band managed to finish the song without him. While he was getting his guitar ready between songs, the rest of the band did a cool impromptu jam. All the feedback, ambient noise, and drum rolls on the toms reminded me of the beginning of “Third Eye” by Tool. A few minutes later though, Mike came back and the show went on without any other mishaps.

The new songs sounded great live. They seem to be more hard-hitting than they do on the album. I definitely like the new album more now that I’ve heard some of it live. It was a nice surprise for me when they opened with “Wrists of Kings.”

Although they didn’t play some of my favorite songs like “So Did We,” “Weight,” or “Altered Course,” I wasn’t disappointed at all with the overall performance. They played for about an hour before they left the stage. I wasn’t expecting them to play “In Fiction” as their encore/closer, but it was a good way to end the night.

They had a lot of merchandise available: notably, the Isis Japan/Australian tour poster for 3,000 yen (about US$25). They had almost all of their CD’s, including Live.04, available as well as the Japanese version of “In the Absence of Truth” on vinyl. I bought a T-shirt for 3,000 yen, a nice memento of a night that won’t soon be forgotten.

2006 may forever be known as the year metal crossed over-- or, at least, the year metal ransacked the casual indie listener's iPod. It was at Pitchfork, anyway: Mastodon's Blood Mountain entered the hallowed halls of Pitchfork's Best New Music section, songs and records from Nachtmystium, Agalloch, and Gojira drew considerable praise from our writers, and, last June, the website inaugurated its first monthly metal column, Brandon Stosuy's "Show No Mercy".

For kids who like their coffee black and their metal blacker, good news: Battle Kommand black metal overlords Nachtmystium and Twilight (featuring Nachtmystium frontman Blake "Azentrius" Judd and members of Isis, Leviathan, Krieg, and Draugar) each have new releases in the pipes for 2007.

First up, Twilight have parted ways with bandmate Malefic (aka Xasthur). "We wish him the best of luck with Xasthur...he still has our support 100%," wrote Judd.

They've also welcomed new member Aaron Turner (of Isis, Old Man Gloom, and House of Low Culture), who'll join Twilight this weekend as they begin writing their next record, the follow-up to 2005's self-titled debut. "We feel that Aaron will bring a new element into our formula and we're very excited to be working with him," enthused Azentrius.

Said album should be wrapped up by autumn, and will "NOT [be] recorded on 4 tracks in hotel rooms like the first! Everything will be way more pro this time around."

10 Year Anniversary Shows in the Fall - Can it have been 10 f'n years?! Well to celebrate we will performing some special anniversary shows on our 2 most favorite coasts during the first week of November (east coast) and the third week of November (west coast). We are as curious as you about the setlists but we can guarantee a giant inflatable flying mosquito. We'll post exact dates and venues as soon as we can.

In The Absence Of Truth Singles - CD Singles for the songs "Holy Tears" and "Not In Rivers, But In Drops" are under construction and due for a late fall and early spring release thanks to our fearless label IPECAC. Included on each of the singles will be a reinterpretation of the song by some of our favorite musicians, as well as a video and other special treats.

Other Release / Represses - VINYL VINYL!! New to the office and soon off to the webstore are the following represses -

"Celelstial" - a slightly older european repress on Conspiracy Records. 2 different colors as well as black.

"Panopticon" - newly remastered for vinyl by James Plotkin on Robotic Empire. On 3 new colors plus black.

"In The Absence Of Truth" - repress again on Robotic Empire. 2 new colors plus black.
